    Okoko Cosmétiques Skincare Review

    Okoko Cosmetique

I've had my eye on Okoko Cosmetiqué for many years -  at least a decade!  I remember following the owner Oyeta Kokoroko during her early years as a natural skincare formulator, which at the time was still a relatively novel thing to do, and rare were the brands that could make the products to be both effective and pretty so she had always peaked my interest.

Born in Togo, but immigrating to Montreal as a chid, Oyeta grew up with a passion and desire to create a positive impact on the world. Her journey into the world of entrepreneurship developed as she struggled to find solutions for her acne-prone skin. She found the existing natural formulas weren't innovative enough, so she created the high-performance Okoko brand and became a cosmetic formulator consultant as well. In 2021 she opened a one of a kind luxury boutique and lab in Vancouver aptly named L'Atelier Okoko.

As our longtime Lilou customers know, I don't bring on new brands lightly (although this year we have a few in the works! call it a post-pandemic spree). I am very particular about what kind of product and company I'll allow so it took me a very long time to pick our first new skincare brands in years; I hope you'll like them as much I do!

My Absolute Favourite Okoko Cosmetique Products

This is really hard to do - I feel like I'm having to pick between my kids (although I always tell them it changes by the hour depending on how they are being!); thankfully this brand is more consistent than my kids. It's still a hard choice to pick just a few favourites but here it goes...

Okoko Beauté Masjestique - Exfoliating Cleanser + Mask

    • I'm not naturally drawn to multi-tasking products; the organization guru in me prefers to categorize things neatly so initially I was hesitant about this product. It also seemed like a lot of money for a tiny jar of cleanser - but as soon as I tried it, I was in love!
    • it smells like heaven and it left my skin glowing. I have great skin to begin with (was definitely not always the case for me; my skin was awful as a younger adult) so it takes a lot for me to notice that my skin looks and feels great after a product. As for the cost, a little goes a really long way and I no longer feel it's crazy expensive because it's lasted a very long time and I still have lots in the jar.
    • I've been using it either as a cleanser or as a leave-on mask - but the past few times I've just cleansed with it and left it on as a mask while I brushed my teeth; it feels like a great way to use a cleanser as a quick a mask. I don't use it if I'm wearing makeup (so I use it primarily in the morning as a cleanser).

Okoko La Perle - Urban Defense Spray Serum

    • I was only going to pick three products but then decided to include this one as well. I was also initially confused by this item - a spray serum....is it a toner? (cleanse & shrink pores) a mist? (hydrate) a serum? (antioxidants) Is it worth the cost?
    • as I sprayed it on my skin, it all made sense....it feels velvety and acts as a hydrating mist loaded with antioxidants (Okoko lists that it can also be used as setting spray or makeup primer).
    • this spray serum has some seriously heavy-hitting antioxidant ingredients so it's great for hydration, pollution protection, pigmentation, anti-aging, wrinkles, firmness, and more. It's also a 'bi-phase' serum, which means it's both water & oil based without the unnecessary binders and emulsifers that aren't good for your skin (shake it well before each use!) and therefore offers double the benefits in one product.
    • yes, it's worth it if you're looking for a luxurious and potent hydrating mist with significant antioxidants.

    Okoko Favourite Products

Okoko L'Elixir de Pureté - Clarifying & Firming Serum with Dragon's Blood & Blue Light

    • this had me at 'Dragon's Blood', and I could picture that this must be what Khaleesi uses. :) This product immediately hooked me and is probably my very favourite Okoko Skincare product.
    • as someone who used to struggle with acne and sometimes still can when testing or using certain products that I normally wouldn't - it's an absolute delight to find a product that works well for both aging skin and acne prone skin. Typically a product of this caliber is very specifically geared toward one skin issue - pigmentation, wrinkles, dullness, acne, etc. This is a truly a serum for everyone and every issue, although I don't find that obvious from its name (unfortunately).
    • it's labelled as a purifying serum which immediately makes me think it's solely for acne-prone skin, but it's also a deeply hydrating and firming serum which also works for wrinkles, pigmentation, dullness, and stressed skin; it's great for sensitive skin type as well. Basically if you have any type of skin issue or are looking for a fabulous anti-aging serum, this is an outstanding choice. It smells divine too.

Okoko Sublime Balms - Blue Light Multi Purpose Moisturizer

    • I also wasn't initially over excited about this one - as someone with acne prone skin, I've always been a bit hesitant to use heavy balms on my face and I prefer the texture of facial oils.
    • This product surprised me the most! I absolutely love it - I love the smell, the texture, the way it makes my skin feel. My skin feels so nourished and hydrated ...I love it so much that I used it daily for weeks (and not one acne break out).
    • If you're looking for major hydration along with some bonus pollution protection, then this is for you. It would also make a great eye balm and can replace any facial oil or lotion/cream (I like mixing up my daily routine so this is a great one to add into your regime); also, as with all the Okoko products, a little goes a long way so it's not an expensive as you might think - you only need a teeny amount per application for this.

As always - please let me know if you have any questions at all. Let me know your thoughts once you try these!

If you look at the ingredients in mainstream sunscreen and then realize that you are putting it on your skin to literally get baked into your skin ... no other product gets into your bloodstream like a sunscreen does. Using a natural sunscreen is the product I care most about getting in a 'clean' version.
